Being a productive member of the society
A productive member of society is one who contributes to their surrounding community/nation instead of acting as a parasite. Productivity is highly encouraged as it not only benefits society, but the individual. It is well established that when one contributes by working, volunteering and giving to others to help improve others and their situations, the heart/mind is gladdened. It is more important to give than to receive.
When one does not contribute to their society, but only receives benefits, they are like a parasite that sucks the life out of those around them and they themselves eventually succumb to “death” with no one else around them to give life to. This is the problem with welfare situations. Sometimes it cannot be helped but to be on welfare, but it should only be a temporary help. When one is totally dependent on the hands of others, it does not give true satisfaction in life. An honest day’s work, no matter how difficult is better than “being on the dole.”
How to become a productive member of the society
Part of having neighbors and being a part of a community is dealing with other people. All of these people need to come together to make decisions to make sure their neighborhoods stay safe and clean. The biggest roadblocks in making decisions are taking into account every person’s opinion. This is true in many situations and areas of life.
Too many times, when people run into opposing views, their response is anger and sometimes violence. Instead, it would be better if people would try to understand each other’s point of view, and why they each feels the way they do. A lot can be learned from seeking to understand another person, and not just an additional way to see the world. When people truly try to connect with each other, they gain a sense of friendship and learn that they can respect each other despite their differences.
Volunteer
Not every job ends with a paycheck. The truth is, many positions and jobs throughout society are run by volunteers. Food banks, soup kitchens, fundraisers, and non-profit organizations rely heavily on people who will freely give of their time.
Many times these opportunities benefit the people there to help more than those who are on the receiving end. It is nice to look beyond your own problems and know that you are a part of something bigger, working to make a difference. Depending on the event, you might even come away with a healthy realization of what really matters in life.
Be a good citizen, help thy neighbor and be kind to all members of the society.
